A New Approach to Rapid Neurotransmitter Measurement in Humans During Active Cognition, P. Read Montague, PhD

October 5, 2016 @ 1:25 pm - 1:50 pm

Read Montague, PhD

We have developed a computational account of neuromodulatory systems that deliver dopamine and serotonin to target neural structures.  These models address the kinds of information encoded by modulations in spike trains of parent dopaminergic and serotonergic neurons, and by extension they also address the information carried by fluctuations in the two neurotransmitters.  In this talk, I will highlight our range of attempts to connect these models to behavior and to neural measures. I start with BOLD imaging correlates and progress to a new approach to record dopamine and serotonin fluctuations concurrently in conscious human subjects during active decision-making.
